From a Sydney kitchen to the world stage.
Last night in Essen, Germany, Looplock was honoured with a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026. Luke was there to collect it, standing on the same stage as the biggest brands in the world. We are a small team from Sydney.
The Red Dot is one of the oldest and most respected design competitions on earth. It has been awarded since 1955, and this year a jury of 40 independent design experts assessed entries from around 60 countries. They don't judge from photos. Every product is physically tested, handled, and argued over before anything wins.
That's why this one means so much to us. It isn't a popularity contest or a pat on the back. It's independent proof, from people whose job is to be hard to impress, that Looplock does exactly what we say it does.
Why we made it
Looplock started with a problem everyone knows and nobody had solved properly: open bags. Chips that go soft. Coffee that goes stale. Flour decanted into containers with the use-by date thrown out with the packet.
The answer was already out there, just in the wrong room. The roll-top seal has kept dry bags watertight on rivers and hiking trails for decades. We brought it into the kitchen. Roll the bag over Looplock, loop it, lock it. Airtight. The label stays on, the expiry date stays visible, and the packaging shrinks as you use what's inside.
The part we're proudest of is the part you can't see. Looplock is built around a shape memory polymer that resets in hot water, returning to its original form, ready to seal again for years. Great design isn't reserved for companies with thousands of staff. It's about finding one problem and solving it perfectly, then refusing to stop until the material, the geometry and the moulding process all work as one.
Every Looplock is designed and made in Sydney, Australia. It always has been.
What's next
Looplock will join the winners' exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, alongside the best product design in the world this year. Not bad for a little blue seal from Sydney.
